Review: Dog Whistle – Show Me the Body

Dog Whistle is the second full length LP from New York based hardcore punk band, Show Me the Body. Though the band's previous projects have displayed a large hip-hop influence, Dog Whistle takes a more noisy and industrial punk approach. Unlike their last project, the Corpus I mixtape, Dog Whistle doesn't contain any featured artists and I think it's for the better. The band is able to really fine tune their sound on this record and it doesn't feel as disorganized as their previous projects did.

The pacing of the album is fantastic, with slower tracks that are able to break up the abrasive nature of the album. Songs like 5. Drought, 7. Now I Know, and 9. Arcanum do a fantastic job at keeping the album fresh and giving the listener a breather from the harsh bangers. Another feature of this album are its smooth transitions that not only tie the LP together as one cohesive piece, but each individual transition is memorable and you can actually tell when the next song is playing.

The only flaw I have with the album is that the two skits (track 3 and 10) while very short don't add any substance as transitional pieces. I honestly find myself skipping them all together when listening to this album casually. This is without a doubt one of my favorite albums of 2019 and I cannot wait to hear what route Show Me the Body plans to explore next.

Favorite Tracks: Camp Orchestra, Badge Grabber, Forks And Knives, Madonna Rocket, Arcanum
