Review: Hi This Is Flume (Mixtape) – Flume

Flume takes a step back from the mainstream electronic style he put forth on his 2016 'Skin' LP and goes for a more experimental route. This mixtape features vocals from experimental artists such as JPEGMAFIA and SOPHIE, with both pulling off fantastic performances. This mixtape has some of the smoothest track transitions I've ever heard and each track flows exceptionally well into one another. The only flaw I have with the album is that some of the tracks aren't quite memorable and a tad bit short. With this in mind, I feel it is such a small issue since the tracks that aren't as memorable do a great job for solely transitional purposes. This album is cohesive, dense, and yet vibrant with how it strays away from the mainstream electronic trope of creating a generic beat and adding a pretty voice over it. This is without a doubt one of the best albums of 2019. I have never heard an electronic album quite like this.
